"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

So you most of you know top contender for HFV’s next car that isn’t in his user name is a 2012 Beetle Turbo. In my head I have justified it by thinking of t as a modern Saab 900. A turbocharged, FWD, liftback, with a nice interior. Infact that interior is the main reason I ruled out the Veloster, amp her car that reminds me of the old Saab. The Veloster’s interior is a hot mess, like most new car interiors. It’s just too busy for me. However the the Beelte’s is clean, simple and even kinda of retro.
Is the Saab better looking? Yes 1000x yes.
Does it have 2 more feet of flat load floor behind the front seats, yuuuup.
Can I buy one that is 6 years old with 54,000 miles, with no rust, working heated seats, and a modern stereo? And safety ratings that would will make my wife very happy? Nope. And nope
It’s a stretch but it kinda makes sense.
Also mod number one to the beelte would be getting smaller wheels those 18” wheels are ugly.

I want to get some 17” classics .They can be found for around 5-600 a set. I aready found some 16” Jetta steelies to put snows on. The 18” would go up for sale or trade ASAP.

I drove a 2015 Beetle from Georgia to Maryland about a year ago and it’s a fun little car, but noisy on the highway for my tastes.

I’m used to economy cars. And almost everything I’ve owned has been from the 90s it’ll probably seem very quite to me. Plus on long trips I have the music loud anyway

I am not fond of the 18” stock wheels either but haven’t gotten around to changing them.
As for a modern Saab; I’m not sure. More civilized than the one 900 I drove And yes a bit shorter. Though, I had a full weekends worth of winter gear(skis, a small sled, two duffels) and three people in mine last weekend so it’s not the least practical car in the world.

DO IT DO IT DO IT! I like these cars. The (2.0) turbo is exactly a GTi with a less boring body. It loses the standard twist beam in the back for a multi-link and has other chassis goodies, I believe.
My someday goal is to have a classic, my New Beetle , and this generation, all in my same green. Then, a 911 wrapped to match them all haha. I have had good luck, but a CPO warranty probably wouldn’t be the worst idea.

I should have never bought my IS. I never knew how awful a Taco with 100,000 miles felt on the highway until I had a smooth ride to go home to.

My ‘02 330Ci is light years ahead of my old ‘88 Cherokee in everything except offroad shenanigans.

The last time I went offroad was when I drove my Integra into a ditch.

Wow.
Your Saab comapro just sorta redeemed the Turbo for me. I’ve never disliked them, but didn’t see the point. You make a good case.

That is a bad place to drive an Integra. I miss being able to just see a trail or dirt road and turn onto it without worrying. I did take the BMW over a rip rap field next to a train tunnel once - fucking terrifying.

I have to slow down to nearly a stop on speed bumps in residential areas... I’m sure people enjoy being behind that.

Yeah it seems a decent family car if need be. The Fit is obviously a better Family car, but that why it’s my Wife’s

We purchased a base model retired rental 2015 Beetle with just under 40k miles last year. I will second the concern about road noise, I’ve been watching the prices of sound deadening for a bit waiting to jump on some. It comes heavily from the rear of the vehicle.
The 1.8t in the base is fun to drive. It’s my wife’s car or I’d throw a tune on it. From what the internet says, these motors respond very well to basic mods. I also upgraded the radio to an Asian market one that provides more functionality - most importantly built in bluetooth.

My next big want are wheels, that said if you get one with 18"s I’ll trade you my 16"s

That’s what I’ve seen. Intake exhaust and a tune will do 260hp/280torque

That’s a valid argument, but I’ve always thought the Optima Turbo did a pretty good impression.
